Le Santocha Surf Forecast Guide

Le Santocha is the most regularly surfed wave in Capbreton, a sand-bottom right that has a long-running surf club and doubles as a regular contest site. It picks up swells that close out the more open beaches nearby and forms up into fat, well-shaped peaks. Good drops lead into slopey walls before a close-out inside section, and a right-hander tends to build along the groyne, turning hollower the further south you drift toward the blockhaus.

When It Works

Le Santocha draws swell from west through north (W-N), with northwest (NW) the best match. It breaks right over sand and is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft. Autumn and winter are the prime seasons, and while it's only moderately consistent, it earns a solid rating when the setup lines up.

Wind and Tide

Look for east (E) offshore wind. The bank works across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.

Local Tips

Shortboards and guns both suit the peaks here. On smaller days plenty of beginners share the water with more experienced surfers, so expect a busy but friendly lineup when it's on.

Access

Wind in off the D28. There's a car park with free parking alongside paid and roadside options, though space is tight on Impasse de la Savanne. Restrooms, showers, a lifeguard, and a surf school round out the facilities. Rips are often strong and paddle-outs can be long, so many surfers sneak out at Le Prevent and paddle around the groyne. Afterwards, the local boulangerie and patisserie is famed for its post-surf pastries.
