Lennox Head Surf Forecast Guide

Lennox Head is widely regarded as Australia's finest right-hand point, a long wave that peels along a half-kilometre headland and breaks over boulders. When it's on, it delivers fast, ruler-edged walls that barrel multiple times over a long ride, with several launch spots strung down the point. It holds serious size too.

When It Works

This is a right-hander that draws swell from northeast through east-southeast to south (NE-ESE-S), with south swell the best match, though a northeast swell is prized here as well. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 6.1 m / 20 ft, holding proper size even when the prospect of leaping off the rocks starts to look suicidal. Consistency is moderate, so it can go flat for long stretches. When the point is sleeping, the scrappy beachbreak in town or the setup up towards the lake is worth a check.

Wind and Tide

Look for southwest offshore wind; a northeast swell meeting a southwest wind is the primo combination here. The point works across low, mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.

Local Tips

This is an experts-only wave. The current running down the point can challenge even the strongest paddlers, and the lineup gets very busy with sharp local riders when it's firing. In town, the beachbreak keeps beginners and groms happy.

Access

Getting in and out over the boulders is tricky, so pick your moment. There's a car park with free parking plus roadside parking, and facilities cover restrooms, showers, camping, a lifeguard, a surf school and a surf shop.
