Overview
Lespecier is a small, isolated beach break with endless sandy peaks running in each direction. The banks throw both lefts and rights, so there is usually a workable peak to pick along the sand. It loses its appeal in onshore winds and once the surf pushes overhead, so it rewards you most on cleaner, more manageable days.
When It Works
Lespecier draws swell from west through north (W-N), and it comes alive best on a northwest (NW) swell. It is a consistent stretch of beach, so you can usually count on finding something rideable when the swell is in. The break works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, covering everything from small, playful days up to solid head-high-plus surf, though it turns unappealing once it gets overhead.
Wind and Tide
Look for an east (E) offshore wind to clean up the peaks. Lespecier can work across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a good fit for intermediate surfers comfortable reading shifting beach-break peaks. The lineup stays fairly quiet, so you can expect plenty of room to spread out and find your own peak. Keep in mind there are plenty of currents along this beach, and it is quiet here outside of August, so plan on relying on yourself in the water.
Access
There is a single road in, reached from Bias through the Foret de Mimizan. Once you arrive you will find a car park with free parking, plus restrooms, showers, and a lifeguard on hand.
