Llandudno (Cape Penninsula) surf guide

Llandudno is a well-known surf spot located on the Cape Peninsula in South Africa. This beach is popular during the summer months and is known for its beautiful scenery and sheltered location, providing some protection from southeast winds. It's got a mix of surf spots depending on the sand conditions along the beach. The vibe here is laid-back, attracting both local surfers and visitors looking to enjoy the waves.

The surf at Llandudno can be quite fun, especially when the conditions align. The optimal swell direction is from the southwest, but it can also handle swells from the southeast and west. Generally, it works best with swell sizes around 2 feet (about 0.6 meters). The waves break over uneven reef and sand, making for a variety of surfable waves. You'll find mostly beach breaks with lefts and rights available. The north end, known as Gat section, often produces some nice right tubes, while the middle peak and southern corner usually have shorter, sucky rides that can close out quickly. This spot is better suited for intermediate surfers, so some experience is recommended.

When it comes to wind direction, an east wind is preferable, as it really helps clean up the waves. Llandudno can handle all tide heights, including low, mid, and high tides, which gives surfers a bit of flexibility depending on the sea conditions. Just keep in mind that it can get chilly, especially when the southeast wind blows offshore, so be ready for cooler water temperatures.
