Los Cabanos is a cluster of west-facing beachbreaks near the port town of Acajutla, throwing both lefts and rights over a mix of sand and uneven reef. It pulls in west swell and can hide a few reefs among the banks. Water quality is a factor here, since the nearby port is polluted, and in practice it's a desperation call for when the south-facing coast has gone flat.
When It Works
The beachbreaks take swell from south through west, with southwest (SW) swell the best match. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, and it holds up as a consistent option once the swell is running.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast (NE) offshore wind to clean it up. It can work through most of the tide, across low, mid, and high, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The forgiving beachbreak waves make this a friendly spot for beginners. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's working.
Access
There's a decent left at Punta Negra, breaking in front of the white silos, but reaching it is tricky without a boat.
