Overview
Lulu's Bend is a reef break tucked into a deep bay in Fiji, also known as Fijian for its spot beside the Shangri-La Fijian Resort and Spa. Waves break on both sides of the bay entrance over live coral, peaking and hissing across the reef before shutting down on near-dry coral. It throws both lefts and rights, so there's a peak to pick depending on the day.
When It Works
The reef pulls in swell from south to west, with south the standout direction. It is usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3 m / 10 ft and stays moderately consistent. The north side peaks and races across the reef as a right, while the south side runs as a left, both quick to close out over the shallow coral.
Wind and Tide
This is a high-tide setup, working through mid and high tide with a rising tide the better call. Northeast is the offshore wind. The rights come alive on any north wind, while the lefts want glassy conditions or a northeast to east breeze.
Local Tips
With waves breaking over live coral and sections that shut down on dry reef, Lulu's Bend is one for experts. Expect a fairly quiet lineup when it is working.
Access
It is a shorter paddle or boat ride out than nearby Natadola.
