Maeda is a coral reef break at the foot of 100m (300ft) cliffs, throwing out spinning lefts and rights over live coral. Beyond the surf, it's a well-known spot for fishing and diving.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from the southwest through north, with a north (N) swell the best match. It's usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. Consistency is on the patchy side, so it pays to catch Maeda on the right day rather than expecting it to fire on demand.
Wind and Tide
Look for a southeast (SE) offshore wind to clean things up. Maeda breaks on mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The wave suits intermediate surfers, and you can expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on.
Access
Reaching the water means getting down the cliffs, so it takes more effort than nearby breaks. There's a car park with free parking, plus roadside parking.
