Majanicho is a long right-hander that peels along the eastern edge of a small natural harbour beside the growing village of the same name. It peaks way out back and rolls through as a long, fat, cruisy wall over uneven, jagged reef, and on bigger swells it connects right through to the inside. Most of the time it is a mellow, forgiving wave, but on a big, clean swell at low tide it steps up and gets good.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from west through north to east, with a northeast (NE) swell the best match. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, and a clean groundswell brings out its best. Winter is the season, and on the bigger swells the wall links through to the inside for a longer ride.
Wind and Tide
Look for a southwest (SW) offshore wind to clean it up. The reef can work through all tides, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Majanicho suits intermediates who want to log long, playful rights and practise cutbacks. It rewards a range of boards, from fish and funboards to longboards and SUPs. Expect a moderately busy lineup with a somewhat reserved feel when it is on. Be ready for a long paddle, since it breaks way outside.
Access
There is free roadside parking out on the headland; from there, paddle out through the deep channel. The reef is jagged and gets shallower at low tide, and rips get stronger when the swell is bigger.
