Overview
Malibu Third Point is the farthest-out of the three takeoffs on Malibu's cobblestone point, and it serves up the fastest, bowliest wave of the bunch. It's a right-hand point wave that breaks over sand and rock, built for quick, speed-oriented surfing. Malibu itself is regarded as one of the best small rights in the world, and Third Point is where that setup runs at its quickest.
When It Works
The point draws swell from south to west (S-W) and is usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft. It's mainly a spring, summer, and autumn wave. When a solid swell fills in, Third Point can link up with the takeoffs inside it for a much longer ride. It's a good-quality wave overall that can turn exceptional on a strong southern swell.
Wind and Tide
Look for northwest (NW) offshore wind, with a workable wind window running from west-northwest to north (WNW-N). It breaks across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Third Point suits intermediate and expert surfers, and it takes everything from shortboards and fish to funboards, longboards, and even bodysurfing. Expect a very busy lineup with a somewhat reserved atmosphere.
Access
Getting in is easy. Look for Malibu Pier and the Jack in the Box along PCH; the point extends to the north.
