Mamba Beach is a sand-bottomed beachbreak on Monrovia's south-southwest-facing city beaches, tucked across the protruding headland from Dorothy's. The waves here can be a bit random, so it's usually easiest to paddle out near the Mamba Point Hotel or in front of the Sweden Embassy, where the banks throw both lefts and rights. Watch for scattered rocks and the ever-present beach logs while you're in the water.
When It Works
The beach draws swell from south through west, with a southwest (SW) swell the best match. It's usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft and stays moderately consistent, so there's usually something to ride when a swell is running.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast (NE) offshore wind to clean things up. The banks work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call. Afternoons tend to bring onshore wind that can blow the beachbreaks out and sometimes get out of control, so try to score your session before it fills in.
Local Tips
This is a friendly, beginner-level beachbreak with a quiet lineup, so you shouldn't have to fight for waves. If Mamba Beach isn't cooperating, Fisher's Point is about a 20-minute drive south, handling a decent swell with long lefts, while Lusama Beach comes into its own when everywhere else is flat.
