Overview
Maracaipe is a sand-bottomed beachbreak and the most consistent beach in this zone, with enough pedigree to have hosted the 2000 World Surfing Games. The middle of the beach is usually the pick, but there are dozens of other sandbanks to choose from. Waves tend to roll through from fatter outside banks, reforming several times on the way in before closing out in the shorebreak, so quality varies from session to session.
When It Works
The beach draws swell from east to south, with southeast the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, and both lefts and rights come out of the banks. Swell shows up reliably here, which is a big part of why this stretch gets surfed as much as it does.
Wind and Tide
Look for west offshore wind. Mid and high tide both work, and a rising tide is generally the better call, with high tide the stronger of the two.
Local Tips
Maracaipe suits beginners, though the shorebreak is popular with bodyboarders and getting out past it can take some work. Expect a busy lineup whenever it is on, and busier still at weekends.

There is a car park with free parking, plus roadside parking if it fills up.
