Margaret River - Southside sits just south of Surfers Point, where a shelf of stone faces into the swell over an uneven reef. It cultivates tubular rights that peel into the channel alongside round, long lefts that close out on the near-dry reef, which can leave you exposed to clean-up sets. Further out, the Bombie is a behemoth peak that barrels left before shouldering off, with a right that stands up and feathers house-size walls into the deep, dark channel. This is serious heavy water, so don't paddle out without the experience to handle it.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from southwest through northwest (SW-NW), with west (W) swell the best match. Clean southwest-to-west groundswell and plenty of water over the hungry reef are what you're after. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 4.6 m / 15 ft, and it's moderately consistent, so there are worthwhile windows when the setup lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast (NE) offshore wind. It breaks on mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
