Overview
Melbystrand is a sand-bottomed beach break serving up sloppy peaks along a long, curved beach about 20 km (12 mi) south of Halmstad. The banks throw both lefts and rights, and there is plenty of room to spread out. Consistency is medium, so you will want to time your sessions. The Laholmsbukten nature reserve sits to the north, though the large rivermouth nearby brings some polluted run-off.
When It Works
The beach pulls in swell from the southwest through to the northwest, and northwest (NW) is the direction to hope for. It works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.2 m / 4 ft, so keep an eye out for a solid swell landing inside that window.
Wind and Tide
Look for an east (E) offshore wind to clean up the peaks. That said, the beach stays rideable in any onshore blowing from the southwest to northwest, just expect it to get sloppy. It surfs across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is friendly, beginner-level surf, and the expansive beach gives you space to find your own peak rather than crowding onto one.
Access
There is a car park with free parking, plus roadside parking if you would rather pull up closer to your chosen stretch of sand.
