Overview
Mellieha is a deep bay that works more as an anchorage than a surf spot, and it is better known as a popular kite surf destination. Waves only show up in stormy northeast swells, and even then they stay weak. The south end of the bay throws up a backwashy wedge, while Mgiebah nearby sits more exposed and picks up a proper beachbreak.
When It Works
The bay takes swell from north through northeast, breaking over sand into both lefts and rights, with northeast the direction that actually gets it going. It is usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.2 m / 4 ft. Consistency is the catch here, so treat it as a spot to check when a stormy northeast pulse lines up rather than one to count on.
Wind and Tide
Look for southwest offshore wind. The bay can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.

When something does break, the small, sandy setup suits beginners, and the lineup stays quiet.
