Overview
Meron is a consistent beachbreak with multiple peaks, breaking both left and right over sand. It's the nearest surfing beach to the popular summer resort of San Vicente de la Barquera. The banks change character along the beach, with the western end running smaller where a rivermouth helps shape them up.
When It Works
The peaks draw swell from west to north (W-N), with northwest (NW) the best match. It's usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. Expect fast walls with the occasional cover-up, and when the main peaks are too much, the western end near the rivermouth tends to be smaller and more manageable.
Wind and Tide
Offshore winds come from the south (S), and the western end, shaped by the rivermouth, also picks up better shelter from west winds. It works through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Meron suits intermediate surfers. The lineup can get crowded at times, so expect company when it's working.
Access
There's a car park with free parking plus roadside parking, and finding a spot is not normally a problem. Facilities are good, with showers, a lifeguard and a surf school, and camping and shops nearby. Be aware of some estuarine pollution.
