Overview
Mersa Baghush is a beach break that peels both left and right over a mix of uneven reef and sand. It's one of several fast breaks scattered along this stretch of coast.
When It Works
The break pulls in swell from the west through north, and it really comes to life on a northwest swell, when the fast waves along this coast are at their best. It's usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for a south offshore wind. It can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Mersa Baghush is best suited to intermediate surfers.
Access
Getting here isn't straightforward. The roads toward Alexandria can be difficult, and many are controlled by soldiers involved in smuggling. There's also no access to the exposed promontory of Ras El Hekma, which is home to a presidential residence.
