Overview
Middles is a sand-bottomed beach break on Florida's Anastasia Island, with peaks that break both left and right. North of the Blowhole, where the sand dunes build up, the bottom forms bowly horseshoe peaks that are a local low-tide favorite. When a north or northeast swell is running, those peaks turn super-hollow and can serve up long lefts.
When It Works
The break draws swell from south through north (S-N), and northeast (NE) is the direction it likes best, which lines up with the hollow, longer-walling waves the horseshoe peaks produce. It is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft, giving a wide working window across both small and much bigger days.
Wind and Tide
Look for a southwest (SW) offshore wind to clean up the faces. Middles can work through most of the tide, from low to high, with a rising tide generally the better call. The horseshoe peaks north of the Blowhole are the go-to when the tide is low.
Local Tips
The mellow beach-break peaks make this a spot that suits beginners.
Access
Middles sits inside Anastasia State Park, which charges a paid entrance. Once you're in, you'll find restrooms, showers, camping, and a lifeguard in summer, plus a surf shop nearby. There's paid parking and a car park. A designated jetski area sits just to the north, so a session here can be noisy.
