Muizenberg is Cape Town's historical home of surfing, a long curve of sand that rolls in fun, forgiving waves with enough peaks to go around. The Corner and Cemetery pull the most surfers, while beginner-friendly options run on through Makassar and down toward Strand depending on the wind.
When It Works
The waves break over sand and take swell from southwest through southeast, with southeast swell the best match. It stays surfable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, peeling both left and right so there is room to spread out along the beach.
Wind and Tide
Look for northwest offshore wind to groom the faces clean. It breaks on low and mid tide, and a rising tide is generally the better call.
