Overview
Nan Madol is a right-hand reef break on the far side of the famous Nan Madol ruins, where wind-exposed rights peel and section off into the bay. It's a long way to go for waves that are often blown out.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from northeast to southeast (NE-SE), with southeast swell the best match, and it breaks over dead coral. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft and tends to be moderately consistent.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast offshore wind to clean it up. The reef can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Nan Madol suits intermediate surfers, and the lineup usually stays fairly quiet.
