Niuling is a sand-bottomed bay with a handful of options. Various peaks break opposite the beach restaurants, and there's a punchy left off the harbour jetty, though that wave has lost some quality since the jetty was extended. From Niuling Bay you can also grab the ferry to Fenjiezhou Island, where the backside of the island can offer protected waves in storm conditions.
When It Works
The peaks draw swell from northeast through southeast, with northeast (NE) swell the best match. Expect lefts, and it's usually moderately consistent. The waves are usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northwest (NW) offshore wind. It can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call. Keep in mind that a small swell at high tide tends to close out as ugly shoredump. When the wind swings from the southwest, the north jetty may come to life.
Local Tips
Niuling is a good fit for intermediate surfers, and the lineup tends to stay quiet.
