Olinda to Porto de Suape is a stretch of coast in Brazil that's known for its scenic beauty and historical charm. Olinda, in particular, is one of the most picturesque colonial towns in the country. However, surfers are limited in this area since there has been a surfing ban due to a significant increase in shark attacks from 1992 to 2013. Despite this, locals still hit the water and enjoy the waves, believing the risks have been exaggerated.

The surf here benefits from an optimal swell direction coming from the Southeast, but you can also catch swells coming from the East and South. This spot handles swell sizes starting from about 2 feet (0.6 meters) and features both left and right breaking waves over uneven reef and sand. It's great for beginners since the conditions can be friendly. The best surfing occurs at low, mid, and high tides, and the wind is often preferable when coming from the West.

Even though surfing is officially banned, local surfers still find ways to enjoy the water. The Brazilian Championships in bodyboarding take place in Porto Galinhas, which is about two hours south of Recife, providing a nearby event for surf enthusiasts. While the surf scene may feel restricted, the waves should not be overlooked by those who know the area well.
