Overview
Ombak Tujuh, whose name translates as Seven Waves, is a big-wave left that breaks over a dead coral reef. A coral ledge pushes out into deep water and forces the waves to stand up suddenly, giving steep drops right beside the cliffs.
When It Works
Ombak Tujuh needs a big swell to perform. It is usable from 1.5 m / 5 ft to 6.1 m / 20 ft and holds size right up to the top of that range. The swell comes from south through southwest, with southwest the best direction. Consistency is moderate, but the spot holds up surprisingly well when a real swell lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast offshore wind. It can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is expert-only territory. The power and the deep-water hold-downs are serious, so it is best left to big-wave surfers, and longer pintails are a smart choice for the steep drops. The lineup stays fairly quiet, and it is rarely crowded unless charter boats turn up.
