Ovahe is a beginner-friendly beach break on the north coast, fronted by a pink-sand beach with the Moais looking out over the lineup. It breaks over sand and peels both left and right, so there is room to pick a peak on either side. When a big northwest swell hits, this stretch of coast comes alive, and neighbouring Anakena picks up waves too.
When It Works
The bank draws swell from northwest through northeast, with northwest (NW) swell the best match. It is usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft and tends to be moderately consistent, so it will not be firing every day but delivers when the swell lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for southwest (SW) offshore wind to clean it up. It can work through most of the tide, across low, mid, and high, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a forgiving, beginner-suited beach break, and the lineup usually stays fairly quiet when it is on.
