Ownahincha surf guide

Ownahincha is a surf spot located on the R598 off the N71, just after you take a turn into the first bay. It’s a pretty relaxed place with a vibe that's easy-going, making it a decent spot to catch some waves. However, access can be a bit tricky outside of the summer months, so planning your visit is key.

This spot delivers beach breaks over sand, perfect for those who enjoy a bit of variety. The swells generally work best when they come from the SouthWest, and it’s capable of handling swell sizes around 1ft (about 0.3 meters). Surfing here can be a bit of a mixed bag since you can ride both left and right waves. If the winds come from the NorthEast, that's when you’ll find the conditions dialed in nicely. Low to mid tide is preferable, so keep that in mind when planning your sessions. It’s a place better suited for intermediate surfers, so if you’re still learning, you may want to be cautious.

The environment features a height-restricted car park located behind the dunes, which means you'll need to watch the height of your vehicle when you arrive. It’s fairly laid-back, which gives surfers a nice atmosphere to relax before and after hitting the waves.
