Overview
Pampa is the exposed headland at the western end of Bundoran's bay, out past town. A serious left that breaks over an uneven, unforgiving reef, it sucks up heavily on a vertical take-off and rifles off in cylindrical barrels. This is expert-only, barrel-riding territory.
When It Works
Pampa draws swell from southwest through northwest, with a west (W) swell the best match. It's usable from 1.2 m / 4 ft to 5.5 m / 18 ft and takes size with aplomb, holding its shape as the swell builds. Expect it to be moderately consistent, so the right window takes some patience.
Wind and Tide
Look for a southeast (SE) offshore wind to clean it up. The reef works on mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a wave for expert surfers who know how to handle a heavy, hollow reef. The lineup gets busy when it's on, and the best locals have the place dialled, so pick your spot with respect rather than paddling out of your depth.
Access
Launching off the rocks is easy enough, but getting back in turns tricky once there's size on it, so plan your exit before you go. There's free roadside parking nearby.
