Pernambuco is a well regarded beachbreak that breaks over sand, throwing a hollow peak with rights that roll into the northern corner. It faces northeast and picks up plenty of swell, so there are both lefts and rights on offer when it lines up.
When It Works
The bank draws swell from east to southeast (E-SE), with southeast (SE) swell the best match. It needs some east in the swell to break, so a straight south swell often slides by. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, and it stays consistent across the size range. If the swell is south and not getting in, drop back to Enseada, the longest beach on the island, and pick off a less crowded rolling peak in the middle or something faster and hollower down the western corner by the rocks.
Wind and Tide
Look for a west (W) offshore wind. Pernambuco is also one of the few spots here that can handle a bit of south wind. It breaks on low and mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is not a spot for beginners, and even intermediates will struggle to get a wave off the local rippers. Come with solid intermediate skills at least, and expect a very busy lineup when it is on.
Access
There are restrooms, showers, a lifeguard, a surf school, and a surf shop on hand. For parking, you have a car park with free parking as well as paid and roadside options.
