Pigeon Point Surf Forecast Guide

Overview

Pigeon Point sits right off the road on the Northern California coast, and it mainly comes into its own when everything to the north is blown out. It isn't really a dedicated surf spot. On big south swells some surfers find a right here, though swells that size are uncommon, and on the biggest days there's talk of a giant right breaking outside the point. Others pick off the little reefs along the cliffs on the south side. The bottom is sand with some rock, and it's a right-hand reef setup. Overall it rates as a poor wave, so keep expectations modest.

When It Works

The reef works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, holding size from waist high up to overhead. It draws swell from south to west (S-W), which lines up best through summer and autumn, roughly June to November. Consistency is low, but there are windows when the setup comes together.

Wind and Tide

Look for offshore wind from the north-northeast (NNE), with a workable wind window running north to northeast. It breaks through low to mid tide, and a rising tide is generally the better call.

Local Tips

The lineup stays quiet, and you can expect an empty peak more often than not. There are locals around, but you probably won't cross paths with them in the water, and the atmosphere can feel reserved. It suits a wide range of surfers, from beginners to experts, and works on anything from a shortboard or fish to a funboard or longboard.

Access

Getting in is easy since the break is right off the road. The water is clean, but be aware of sharks, and with so few people out you will often be surfing alone.
