Pillbox/Fletcher Cove Park is a sand-bottom beach break in Solana Beach, with peaks forming on sandbars up and down the beach and offering both lefts and rights. Tucked off South Sierra Avenue, it's a popular spot through the summer.
When It Works
The break draws swell from south through west-southwest to northwest (S-WSW-NW), with a southwest swell the best match. It's usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, and it comes alive best on small, peaky swells that let the sandbar peaks stand up.
Wind and Tide
Look for an east offshore wind to clean things up. The sandbars work best from low to mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call. There's no beach at high tide except right in front of the parking lot ramp, so time your session around the lower stages.

Facilities are easy here, with restrooms, showers, a lifeguard, and a surf shop on hand. There's a car park with free parking.
