Overview
Pimentel is a fun, sand-bottomed break shaped by a long, dishevelled pier that points straight into the incoming swell. The pier gathers sand into long bars, setting up rolling peaks and plenty of corners to play with. The scene is casual and holiday-flavoured, an easygoing detour that's well worth a day trip.
When It Works
Pimentel draws swell from south through west-southwest to northwest (S-WSW-NW), and it comes alive when a northwest (NW) swell arrives. Summer northwest swells hitting the winter sand build-up set up the best lefts on the south side. It's a consistent spot that works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, breaking both left and right. When the sand fills in through the holes, the wave reforms and keeps peeling on the inside.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast (NE) offshore wind to clean it up. The break handles low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a welcoming wave for beginners and a great place to practise turns on loose, small-wave boards. The lineup usually stays fairly quiet, and while there's a local crew, there are plenty of waves to go round. Keep in mind that currents can get strong at times.
