Playa Blanca is a south-facing beach break in Puerto del Carmen, not to be confused with the wave-less resort of the same name further south. The waves break over sand and peel both left and right, with the peaks in front of the McDonalds (earning the nickname Mac-a-Dee's) usually the pick of the beach.
When It Works
This is a low-consistency spot that only really comes to life during screaming onshore Sirocco easterlies or the strongest north to northeast winds. It draws swell from the north to east, with an east swell the best match. The beach works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.2 m / 4 ft.
Wind and Tide
The offshore wind direction here is north. The beach breaks across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The gentle sand-bottomed peaks make this a friendly option for beginners when it breaks. Waves here are rare, and when they do show the lifeguards will red-flag the beach, so always ask their permission before you paddle out.
Access
You'll find restrooms, showers, a surf shop, and lifeguard cover at the beach. Parking is easy, with a car park offering free parking alongside roadside spots.
