Overview
Playa de Carchuna/Calahonda is a long beach that bends round from east to south, which opens up different wind and swell options depending on the day. The waves break over a mix of boulders and sand, with both lefts and rights on offer. There is also a good right-hander that breaks over rocks, though it rarely gets surfed.
When It Works
The beach draws swell from east through south to southwest (E-S-SW), with southwest (SW) swell the best match. It works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, so there is a wide window before things get too small or too big.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northwest (NW) offshore wind. The beach can work through the full tide cycle, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a friendly spot for beginners, and the curve of the beach means you can often find a corner that suits the conditions.
