Overview
Playa De La Garita is a beachbreak that mostly throws a slamming shore dump, though the occasional wave will peel into a short, fast and hollow ride. That mix makes it a favourite among the local bodyboarders.
When It Works
The break works over sand and draws swell from northwest through north to east, with a northeast (NE) swell the best match. It's usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, and picks up waves from both north storm winds and easterly Sirocco winds. Peaks break both left and right.
Wind and Tide
Look for a west (W) offshore wind to clean things up. It comes in on mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers. Expect a busy lineup when it's on, though the southern end of the beach tends to have fewer takers. The marginal little reef waves around nearby Arrieta are mostly ridden by local kids and generally aren't worth the effort.
