Overview
Playa del Mujer is an exposed bay beachbreak that breaks over sand, with a large rock sitting in the middle that lets waves peel off to both the left and the right. Those peaks often close out, so clean rideable sections can be hit or miss.
When It Works
The bay draws swell from southwest through north to northeast (SW-N-NE), with northeast (NE) swell the best match. It's usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft, though it's at its friendliest in smaller swells and turns heavy as the size builds.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast (SE) offshore wind. The bay really only comes good when the wind is light, so keep an eye out for those calmer windows. It can work across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
In small swells this is a friendly spot for beginners, but the currents here can be dangerous, so it's not one to take lightly. Expect the lineup to get busier when the surf school shows up.
Access
Getting in means a rough track from Tindaya town: drive straight west between the mountains for about 3 km, turn left at the end, then keep going another 3 km until the bay comes into view. Leave the car on top of the beach by the rubbish bins, where parking is free. It's easy to get stuck out here and there's no mobile connection, so come prepared. Camping is allowed with permission.
