Overview
Playa Honda is a long beachbreak that runs alongside the airport runway, throwing up small but surprisingly powerful peaks over sand. The waves stay compact along most of the stretch and grow in size toward the south end, though that end is very exposed to the wind. When it blows hard from the north or east, the peaks tend to close out.
When It Works
Playa Honda pulls in swell from the north through to east, with northeast (NE) the best match. It works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, breaking both left and right over sand. Consistency is medium, so it pays to time your sessions for when the swell fills in.
Wind and Tide
Look for northwest (NW) offshore wind to groom the peaks. The beach can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
With forgiving, manageable peaks, Playa Honda is a solid pick for beginners. Crowds aren't a concern here, so you'll usually have plenty of room to pick your own peak.
