Overview
Playa Kanoa is the go-to break on Curaçao, a sandy beach that gives way to an uneven reef peeling both left and right depending on the swell. It's the island's standout wave and picks up the best of whatever swell is running.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from northwest to northeast and comes together best on a northwest swell. It's usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, breaking left and right over the reef. Consistency is the catch: it's fairly inconsistent and really only worth a look from December to April, though it delivers when a swell finally lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for a south offshore wind. The reef works across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This leans intermediate-plus, but beginners can get by on the smaller days. It's the most popular spot on the island, so expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on, though the vibe stays mellow as long as you wait your turn.
