Overview
Pointe de l'Or is a sandy beachbreak and the closest spot for the area's kiteboard camps, like Dakhla Attitude, to swap the kites for some wave-riding. It throws both lefts and rights, ranging from nice feathering peaks further out to fast inside shorebreak runs. A huge beach stretches north toward the fishing spot at the cliffs, where a left reef comes alive on no-wind days. The point itself holds a sketchy right in big swells, though you'll usually find better waves elsewhere.
When It Works
The beachbreak draws swell from southwest to north (SW-N), with northwest (NW) the best direction. It's usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft, though smaller is the call here, since anything above head height becomes a real challenge. Waves break over sand, and the spot stays consistent enough to have something on offer regularly.
Wind and Tide
Look for east (E) offshore wind, as cross and onshore winds often mess the beachbreak up. It works across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a friendly spot for beginners, and the lineup tends to stay fairly quiet. Just keep in mind that currents run strong here, so watch your position in the water.
Access
Getting out here takes a 4WD, and the deep soft sand often traps vehicles on the way in. There's free parking, with roadside spots to leave the car.
