Overview
Ponzos is a consistent beachbreak set along a long, roomy beach with plenty of space to spread out. The peaks break over sand and throw up both lefts and rights.
When It Works
It pulls in swell from west through north, and a northwest swell brings out the best of it. The break is usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, and it stays reliable enough to make the most of a solid NW pulse.
Wind and Tide
Look for southwest offshore wind. Ponzos can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one rewards expert surfers. The south end tends to draw the crowd, so expect a busier lineup down that way when it's firing.
Access
A lifeguard covers the beach and parking is free, though finding a space can get tricky in summer.
