Port Mansfield Jetties Surf Forecast Guide

Overview

Port Mansfield Jetties is one of Texas' most isolated setups, sitting on a narrow barrier island where inlet jetties focus almost any swell into some of the longest, most lined-up waves in the state. Waves peel both left and right over a sand bottom, and a sandbar often forms between the jetties to add shape. There's more power here than at most Texas beachbreaks, along with noticeable rips. It breaks consistently and earns a decent reputation when the setup comes together.

When It Works

The pass draws swell from northeast through east-southeast to south, with southeast (SE) the best match. It's usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, running from chest high up to a couple of feet overhead on the bigger days. The shoals between the jetties and the beaches on either side are known to handle serious size in the eight to twelve foot range, particularly through hurricane season. Spring and autumn are the standout seasons.

Wind and Tide

Look for a northwest (NW) offshore wind. A workable wind window runs from north through west with a swell pushing in, and because the jetties shelter the pass from heavy south winds, strong southerlies can work too. The spot breaks across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.

Local Tips

This is a wave for experts, and it suits everything from shortboards to funboards, longboards, and fish. The lineup stays quiet and can feel reserved, though the paddle out is one of the easier ones in Texas.

Access

Getting here takes commitment: it's remote, reached only by four-wheel drive over miles of soft-sand beach or by boat. Camping and free parking are on hand once you arrive. Come prepared for isolation, strong current, and a high shark factor.
