Overview
Portete is a powerful right-hand point breaking over uneven reef and sand, just around from Suspiro. A rivermouth and beachbreak peaks sit to the south, and a large resort now overshadows the spot.
When It Works
Portete will break on just about any swell, drawing from south through west-southwest to northwest (S-WSW-NW), with northwest (NW) the direction that suits it best. It's usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. As a point setup it can be somewhat inconsistent, so it rewards a bit of patience when the swell lines up.
Wind and Tide
Unlike Suspiro, Portete offers little wind protection and blows out very easily, so time your session for southeast (SE) offshore wind. It works on mid and high tide, with a rising tide the better call. Stay out at low tide, where it turns dangerous.
Local Tips
This is an expert-level wave. Expect a fairly quiet lineup when it's on.
