Overview
Praia dos Molhes is a sand-bottomed left that peels off the south jetty, which also shelters the lineup from north wind. When the sandbanks are well-shaped, it throws up a decent left wall.
When It Works
The break draws swell from east to south (E-S), with east (E) the best match, and it is at its best on smaller swells. It runs over sand and stays moderately consistent, working from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for west (W) offshore wind. It can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a well-known contest venue, so expect a busy lineup and plenty of competition when it turns on, especially once a solid east swell lines up with good banks. The gentle left also makes it approachable for beginners.
Access
There is a surf school and surf shop close by, plus a car park with free parking and roadside parking.
