Overview
Praia Grande is one of the most consistent breaks in the Lisbon zone, a versatile beachbreak peeling left and right over sand. The rocks at the beach's northern end shelter a few rarely ridden rights, and the water here is very clean.
When It Works
The beach picks up swell from southwest through north, with northwest (NW) swell the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, which combined with its consistency means there is usually something to ride.
Wind and Tide
Look for an east (E) offshore wind, and keep in mind the spot doesn't like a lot of wind in general. It can work through the whole tide, but the wave changes character as it moves: expect long, often slow waves at low tide and faster, shorter shorebreaks once the tide starts pushing up. A rising tide is generally the better call.

Praia Grande suits beginners well, and its consistency means the beach gets busy whenever it's on, so expect company in the lineup.
Access
There's a car park with free parking, plus roadside parking. The beach is well set up, with restrooms, showers, a lifeguard, camping, a surf school, and a surf shop.
