Punta de Salinetas is a heavy left-hand slab that breaks over an uneven, ultra-shallow reef, and it is strictly a wave for bodyboarders. This is a very rarely ridden break: in normal conditions it is just a stretch of coast facing open sea, and the wave only reveals itself when the right swell arrives. The water is very clean, but keep an eye on the currents.
When It Works
The slab picks up swell from northeast to east, but it needs a due east (E) swell to break properly. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, so once that east swell shows up it can handle a fair amount of size.
Wind and Tide
Look for a west (W) offshore wind. The wave also needs water over the reef: mid and high tide both work, with a rising tide the better call. Given how shallow the slab is, the higher tides are not optional here.
Local Tips
This one is for expert bodyboarders only. The wave is aggressive and the reef sits barely below the surface, so surfboards and anything else with fins are a bad idea. Very few people ride it, so do not count on anyone else being out when it breaks.
Access
You can park along the roadside, and there are showers.
