Overview
Punta Tur is a long left-hand point set along the Bayovar headland. It breaks further out than nearby Nonura, so the walls run really long, though the wave peels so quickly that the ride usually splits into separate sections. Swell wraps over a mix of uneven reef and sand. Strong currents sweep through the lineup, which makes a jetski a genuinely useful way to get around out here.
When It Works
Punta Tur draws swell from south through west-southwest to northwest (S-WSW-NW), and it comes together best on a southwest (SW) swell. It works from 1.2 m / 4 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft. Consistency is moderate, and the point can go flat or get blown out, so catching a good window matters. When a big southwest swell lines up, it can start to resemble its Indonesian namesake, T-Land.
Wind and Tide
Look for an east (E) offshore wind. The point can work across low, mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an expert-level wave that rewards fast, confident surfers. Expect a fairly quiet lineup when it's on.
Access
Facilities here come down to basic desert camping, so arrive fully self-sufficient. Reaching the point means a long 4x4 trek, and few surfers bother, so pack extra water, food and fuel, along with spare tyres for the near-inevitable punctures. It's a pristine stretch of coast, so leave it exactly as you found it.
