Overview
Purnama Beach is a laid-back beach break running along a 2.5 km strip of black lava sand, with rice paddies and traditional houses framing the backdrop. It makes a nice respite when nearby Keramas gets crowded.
When It Works
Peaks break both left and right over sand, and the spot is consistent. It draws swell from south through west, with a south swell the best match, and works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. Mornings tend to be glassiest, and a scout along the reefs to the south can turn up some punchier rights.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northwest offshore wind. The beach works through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
It is a beginner-friendly spot, and the lineup usually stays fairly quiet when it is on.
