Overview
Quicksilver is Cloud 9's neighbouring reef peak, and it usually breaks at the same time as its more famous neighbour, just a touch smaller. The wave works over live coral, throwing a short, fast, hollow section off the peak before opening into a workable wall that runs down to a clean, defined channel. It favours the rights but has both lefts and rights on offer.
When It Works
The reef picks up swell from north through east-northeast to southeast (N-ENE-SE), with an east swell the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft and is only moderately consistent, so you can count on worthwhile windows rather than waves on tap.
Wind and Tide
Look for a west offshore wind. Quicksilver can break across low, mid, and high tide, though a rising tide is generally the better call, and the higher water sits safer over the live coral.
Local Tips
The wave suits intermediate surfers. Expect a busy lineup when it turns on, but Quicksilver earns its keep as a relief valve from Cloud 9 and can hand a few more waves to anyone struggling to get their share next door.
