Raffs is a gentle beachbreak along Ocean Grove, with mellow peaks that break both left and right over sand. It suits beginners, longboarders, SUPers, and anyone after a laid-back session.
When It Works
The bank draws swell from southwest through southeast, with southeast swell the best match. It needs a decent-sized southwest to south swell before it really comes to life, so smaller days tend to go flat. When there is size, it works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft and holds up as a moderately consistent option.
Wind and Tide
Look for a north offshore, or at least a bit of north in the wind, to clean up the peaks. The beachbreak can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a friendly, beginner-level wave. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it works, though there is plenty of sand to wander along Ocean Grove if you want to find your own peak.
Access
The surf club covers the essentials, with restrooms, showers, and lifeguard cover, and surf schools are easy to find. There is a car park with both free and paid parking.
