Red Tree Reef surf guide

Red Tree Reef is a surf spot located to the west of Sitka, known for its unique reef breaks. This spot isn't your everyday ride; it requires the right conditions to really shine. It's about an hour's boat ride from Sitka, making it a more secluded yet accessible location for surfers looking to catch some waves.

The surf here is best when there's a big southwest swell rolling in, as it tends to create a solid peak. You can ride both left and right, which gives you a bit of variety depending on what you're feeling. The waves are best for expert surfers, as they break over an uneven reef and can handle swell sizes starting from about 2 feet (0.6 meters) and up. The ideal wind direction is coming from the east, and you can surf it during low, mid, or high tide, giving some flexibility in planning your sessions.

Make sure to check the swell direction; southwest to west is optimal for getting the best waves here. A good day at Red Tree Reef can be rewarding, but remember that it's not always going to be perfect, so be prepared for some variability in conditions.
