Overview
Remarkable Caves is a small, tight bay just south of Port Arthur, better known as a tourist stop but also home to a rideable wave. Lefts and rights break over uneven reef and sand, with scattered rocks around the bay.
When It Works
The bay draws swell from south through southwest, with southwest (SW) the best match. It's at its friendliest on smaller south swells, which throw up nice peaks at low tide. Expect it to work from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, and count on it being moderately consistent.
Wind and Tide
Look for north (N) offshore wind. It comes to life at low and mid tide, with a rising tide the better call. Steer clear of the caves at high tide when there's any swell running, or you'll get smashed.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers, and the lineup tends to stay fairly quiet.
Access
There's a car park with free parking. To reach the break you walk or paddle through the caves, which fill up at high tide, so cross at lower tide.
