Rocky Point surf guide

Rocky Point is located between Tetas and Coronado at Punta Barco. This spot has a reputation for needing just the right size swell to get going, as it can easily close out. The area is mostly known for its rights, but you can also find a few lefts that tend to shift in front of the rivermouth. Getting to Rocky Point can be a bit tricky since access is through some pricey private real estate.

This surf spot works best with swells from the South and Southwest, handling sizes around 4 feet (about 1.2 meters). The waves break over uneven reef and sand, producing mostly reef waves that roll right. You'll want to keep an eye on the tide; mid-tide tends to be the sweet spot for catching some decent waves. Also, if you can get a NorthWest wind, that’ll usually create better conditions. It's generally a place for intermediate surfers looking to challenge themselves without being overwhelmed.

Because the surf can be inconsistent, it’s always a good idea to check the conditions before heading out. While Rocky Point can dish out some fun rides, it’s not the top of the list for everyone, and being familiar with the local vibe will help a lot when you're out there.
