Overview
Rolling Stones is a reef break near Grindavík that peels fat rights and lefts over a triangular boulder bottom. It's a mellow, shapey wave rather than a punchy one, and it really comes alive when a long-period groundswell pushes in.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from south through southwest, and it wants that swell dead southwest (SW) to line up properly. It's usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 6.1 m / 20 ft, and the upper limit is essentially unknown, so there's plenty of room on the big days. To break with any shape it needs a swell period over 10 seconds and enough size to fill in through a full tide. Consistency is on the lower side, so it can be inconsistent, but the windows are there when a clean SW swell lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for east (E) offshore wind. The reef works on low and mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call. Keep in mind it can get very shallow at low tide, so give it enough water underneath you.
Local Tips
Rolling Stones suits intermediate surfers. Expect a quiet lineup here, often a solo session when it's on.
